Identity Theft Prevention Tips

  • You weren't expecting to receive it
  • It asks you to open a link
  • It uses urgent language
  • It contains misspelled words
  • It has an attachment
  • It requests personal information.  (PINs, passwords, social security numbers, logins, etc.)
  • It pressures you to send money online
  • Click on a link to unfreeze your account
  • Clink on a link to verify a transaction
  • Share your one-time passcode
  • Share your online banking credentials

  • Shred all documents containing personal information including expired credit cards
  • Do not give out personal information over the phone, through text, or online
  • Pay bills through your Bank & Trust Bill Pay 
  • Enroll in Online Banking and check your accounts often through The Bank & Trust website and app
  • Sign up for eStatements
  • Do not share your passwords or PINs
  • Request a hold on your mail when traveling
  • Close all inactive credit cards and bank accounts
